Demolition crews will tear down a vacant duplex that was destroyed in a fire in the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue on Wednesday.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called out to the two-storey blaze just after 10:30 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the structure.

The city says crews launched a defensive fire attack as it wasn’t safe for firefighters to enter. Crews remained on scene into the afternoon, using aerial ladder trucks and hose lines to apply water on the fire. The WFPS drone is being used to provide situational awareness.

An emergency demolition has been arranged due to the partial collapse of the building.

No injuries have been reported. The fire is under investigation.

The structure was previously damaged in a fire in October 2024.
