WINNIPEG — Dave Angus has been named the next chancellor of the University of Manitoba, set to begin his three-year term on June 1, 2025.
U of M president Michael Benarroch made the announcement at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce’s State of the City luncheon on Friday.
A graduate of the U of M’s Asper School of Business (1982), Angus was the former president and CEO of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce for 17 years and is currently president of Johnston Group.
“Through my involvement in the community, particularly the Chamber of Commerce, I saw how impactful the University of Manitoba is and developed a deep appreciation for its stature among universities across Canada, and internationally,” Angus said in a statement.
“There are so many layers to the impact of this university and if I can play a role in spreading that message and bringing people to the university through partnerships, then that’s a role I am honoured to play.”
As chancellor, Angus will serve as the ceremonial head of the university, conferring degrees and acting as an ambassador for the U of M.
Angus has been recognized for his leadership in business, including being named Canada’s top chamber of commerce executive in 2012, and is a member of the Order of Manitoba.
He will succeed current chancellor Anne Mahon, who has served in the role since 2019.
