CAA Manitoba has kicked off its 14th annual Worst Roads campaign, encouraging residents to nominate roads in need of repair.
The campaign highlights problem areas for decision-makers, advocating for infrastructure improvements.
A recent CAA survey found that 96 percent of Manitobans are concerned about road conditions, with more than half reporting vehicle damage due to poor roads. Repair costs range from $300 to $6,000, with the average expense at $882.
“Many Manitobans are experiencing the effects of the rise in the cost of living, including having to delay vehicle repairs,” said Ewald Friesen, manager of government relations at CAA Manitoba.
“This makes investing in our roads and infrastructure more crucial than ever. We understand that consumers are being cautious with their spending, and many choose to keep their cars longer instead of purchasing new ones and stretching an already strained family budget.”
Last year’s worst road winner, 18th Street in Brandon, saw swift action from local and provincial governments, as a result of the campaign’s impact.
Residents can nominate roads with issues such as potholes, poor signage, or safety concerns at caaworstroads.com from March 18 to April 11. The top 10 worst roads will be announced after the voting period.
