WINNIPEG – Nine people were hospitalized after a carbon monoxide leak was detected in a North Kildonan home on Tuesday morning.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members responded to a call for assistance at 9:29 a.m. on Sharron Bay and were alerted to the presence of carbon monoxide. Readings showed dangerous levels of 300 parts per million (ppm).
Additional emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, and all nine occupants were transported to the hospital in unstable condition. Firefighters ventilated the home, while Manitoba Hydro investigated the source of the leak and ensured the residence was safe.
Officials are reminding residents that carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless, and tasteless gas that can cause serious illness or death. Common sources include faulty heating systems, blocked vents, and running vehicles in enclosed spaces.
