The Manitoba government will spend $500,000 to install 51 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the province.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes announced the funding Monday, noting the chargers will be installed in Brandon, Morden, and several rural, northern, and Indigenous communities. Twelve of the stations will also be added to three multi-unit residential buildings.
“As more Manitobans look to make the switch to electric vehicles, there is a growing need to ensure reliable charging infrastructure in strategic locations,” said Moyes, in a release.
The announcement builds on previous investments that brought EV chargers to communities like The Pas, Thompson, and Treherne.
The initiative is part of Manitoba’s Affordable Energy Plan and is funded through the province’s Climate Action Fund.
