Winnipeg firefighters responded to two separate house fires early Wednesday morning.

The first blaze broke out around 4:27 a.m. at a bungalow in the 700 block of Elmhurst Road. Crews encountered heavy smoke and flames on arrival and initially launched an interior attack but were forced to retreat due to worsening conditions.

Crews re-entered the home to fully extinguish the fire, which was under control by 6:31 a.m. No injuries were reported, and the house is believed to be a total loss. The cause remains under investigation.

Just 15 minutes later, at 4:42 a.m., firefighters were called to a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey home and garage in the 100 block of Parr Street. Crews brought the blaze under control by 5:05 a.m. The lone occupant had safely evacuated. The fire remains under investigation.
