PTH 34 in Central Plains/Pembina Valley, Manitoba, is the worst road in the province, says CAA Manitoba. (HANDOUT)
PTH 34 in the Central Plains/Pembina Valley region has been named Manitoba’s worst road of 2025, according to CAA Manitoba’s annual Worst Roads campaign.
The highway topped the list due to widespread complaints about potholes, poor maintenance, unpaved sections, and inadequate signage.
This is the first time PTH 34 has claimed the number one spot, despite being a regular on the top 10 list over the years.
“The CAA Worst Roads campaign provides a powerful snapshot to governments on where to prioritize budgets and move up road repairs by giving Manitobans an opportunity to have their say on the difficulties they are experiencing in getting around,” said Ewald Friesen, manager of government and community relations for CAA Manitoba.
“We saw the proof of this when last year’s winner, 18th Street in Brandon, received a swift and coordinated response from governments on the same day the results were released, with shovels in the ground by Fall.”
This year’s campaign saw a 50% spike in road nominations, with 723 roads submitted across 86 municipalities. CAA reports that while 39% of respondents are unhappy with the durability of road work, 88% are willing to endure construction delays for longer-lasting repairs.
New entries on this year’s list include PR 234 and PR 239 in the Interlake region, PR 349 in Westman, 26th Street in Brandon, and PTH 12 in Eastman.
