Manitoba’s rent guideline for 2026 has been set at 1.8 percent, effective January 1, the provincial government announced.
The guideline, updated annually using Manitoba’s consumer price index, applies to most rental properties, including apartments, houses, duplexes and single rooms.
It does not apply to units renting for $1,670 or more per month, social housing, government-owned units, buildings first occupied after March 2005, co-operatives, not-for-profit life lease units, or approved rehabilitated units.
Landlords must give tenants at least three months’ written notice before a rent increase takes effect, and rent can generally only be raised once a year.
