Manitobans are being encouraged to celebrate the province’s agricultural sector during Farm and Food Awareness Week, running September 14–20.
“By choosing local ingredients, Manitobans are supporting farmers, food processors and local businesses, while also strengthening our communities and contributing to a sustainable and resilient food system,” says Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn.
“This week is about recognizing the people and communities who bring Manitoba’s food from farm to table.”
This year’s theme, Seize the Season: Appreciating Manitoba’s Harvest, highlights fall traditions, local foods, and the people who bring food from farm to table.
Events include Discover Agriculture on the Farm at the Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre today and Local Food Day on September. 17. A “Fall Harvest Checklist” will also encourage Manitobans to cook with seasonal produce, visit farms and markets, and enjoy harvest activities.
Nearly 40,000 Manitobans work in the province’s agriculture sector.
