What’s in a name? For Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism, it’s all about clarity.
Formerly known as Economic Development Winnipeg, the organization has changed its name to better align with its mission to draw economic spending to Winnipeg, particularly when it comes to tourism.
The organization has combined its long-standing efforts in tourism, investment and business attraction into one brand, with a new logo aligned to the city’s “Winnipeg” place brand.
“We wanted our name to more clearly reflect the work we do and the mission that drives us,” said Ryan Kuffner, president and CEO of Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism.
“It communicates who we are: an agency passionate about Winnipeg and committed to making it a better place to live, work, invest and visit. The city has changed, the world has changed, and we’re evolving with it. This name gives us a clearer voice in a competitive global marketplace and reinforces why we’re here — to grow Winnipeg’s economy.”
The rebrand marks the first name change since 2010, when Destination Winnipeg was restructured as Economic Development Winnipeg. In 2016, the agency’s brands — YES! Winnipeg, Tourism Winnipeg and EDW — were visually aligned.
Since 2016, the organization has supported more than 60 company expansions, secured over 500 events, attracted $1.5 billion in capital investment and contributed to the creation of nearly 16,000 jobs, adding an estimated $5.3 billion to Winnipeg’s economy.
A new long-term strategy, Winnipeg Forward: Shaping our city’s economic future, will be launched on November 4.
