Manitoba parents now have access to a new online resource offering information on pregnancy and early childhood development.
Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara and Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine announced the launch of the Parenting in Manitoba website on Wednesday, which features more than 120 articles covering topics from safe swaddling and starting solid foods to identifying common childhood illnesses.
“The Parenting in Manitoba website offers clear, trustworthy information to help new and expectant parents support their child’s healthy development, from pregnancy through the first five years of life,” said Asagwara, in a release.
The province also says the platform supports its broader early childhood initiatives, including the Manitoba Prenatal Benefit, which has assisted more than 1,200 Manitobans this year.
The website responds to recommendations from the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth’s Shifting the Lens report and aligns with provincial health and child development strategies.
Fontaine added the centralized resource will make it easier for caregivers to find consistent, credible information. More than 200 public health nurses across the province will also direct families to the site through programs such as Families First and Healthy Baby.
