The Manitoba government has opened a new permanent rest stop at Devils Lake along Highway 6, offering travellers accessible washrooms with running water and garbage facilities.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor said the new site improves safety and comfort for drivers along the remote highway that links Winnipeg to northern Manitoba communities.
Until now, travellers faced long stretches without access to basic amenities. The new facility replaces a temporary washroom and garbage station that was installed as part of a 2024 pilot project. The Williams River temporary rest stop will remain open.
Naylor said the province plans to continue identifying more rural highway locations for future rest stop infrastructure to support both local and long-distance travel.
