The City of Winnipeg has released a new five-year roadmap to modernize how parking and curbside spaces are managed across the city.
The Winnipeg parking and mobility strategy outlines how the city will manage on-street and off-street parking, as well as services like taxis, rideshares, and carsharing. The city says the strategy focuses on convenience, accessibility, and fairness as Winnipeg continues to grow and its streets become busier.
“This is about helping drivers by making parking easier to find, improving access for deliveries and people with mobility challenges, and making sure curbside space is managed fairly and efficiently as our city continues to grow,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham, in a release.
“Our streets are getting busier, and this plan helps keep them moving.”
If approved by city council, the plan would introduce real-time data to show available parking spots, clearer signage and payment options, regular reviews of parking rates and hours, and exploration of on-street electric vehicle charging.
The plan will go before the standing policy committee on public works on November 6, before it moves to the executive policy committee and council for final approval.
