The Christmas spirit will be alive and well on Monday evening at Winnipeg’s City Hall for the annual tree-lighting.
City crews are putting the finishing touches on the 50-foot tree, which sits outside of 510 Main Street every holiday season.
Instead of cutting down a fresh tree each year, the city moved to use an artificial one in 2019 and later expanded it in 2021.
City staff have been installing more than 8,000 decorations in the 640 branches. They include a mix of blue, white, and gold ornaments, pinecones, and leaf garland.
Nearly 65,000 energy-efficient LED mini-lights make the tree sparkle at night, with the lights on the custom-made tree topper made to “dance.”
Mayor Scott Gillingham and city councillors have invited the public to the annual tree-lighting ceremony on Monday, November 17, at 5:45 p.m.
There will be a special visit from Santa, and refreshments will be available.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for the Christmas Cheer Board.
