The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed veteran defensive back Deatrick Nichols to a one-year contract extension.
Nichols, who was set to become a free agent in February, returns for his sixth season in Winnipeg after another strong year in the secondary. The 31-year-old was a key leader on a Blue Bombers defence that allowed the fewest points in the CFL in 2025.
He finished the season with 37 defensive tackles and 13 pass knockdowns, ranking second in the league. Nichols started all 18 regular-season games and the Eastern Semi-Final, continuing his streak of durability after missing just two games over the past five seasons.
A two-time CFL all-star and a member of Winnipeg’s 2021 Grey Cup championship team, Nichols has appeared in 82 regular-season games — all with the Blue Bombers — since signing with the club in 2021.
ANOTHER PIECE OF THE PUZZLE.
