Winnipeg firefighters battled a blaze at a furniture store in the 800 block of Nairn Avenue early Wednesday.

Crews were called to Dufresne Furniture at around 2:25 a.m. and found heavy flames coming from the building.

Firefighters used aerial ladders to spray water on flames before attempting to enter the structure.

Crews declared the fire under control at 8:50 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The fire appeared to be contained to Dufresne’s warehouse portion of their building and not the furniture store’s showroom area.

Water used by firefighters to put the fire out has frozen on the road and sidewalk. The city says Public Works crews are on scene to assess the roadway, remove snow and ice, and apply sand as needed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area until all emergency crews leave the scene.
