The Manitoba government is reinvesting $4 million from the sale of U.S. liquor products into programs supporting children’s health and well-being.
Of that total, $3 million will go to the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba to support school meal programs, while another $1 million will be directed to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba to support pediatric care and family services.
“Manitobans stepped up over the holidays knowing that the proceeds would go to families in need,” said Premier Wab Kinew, in a statement. “That support is helping put good food in schools for kids and improve care for children who are sick.”
The funding follows an earlier $2.6 million donation announced in December to food banks and community organizations across the province.
“This donation will impact projects aimed to increase safety and improve the path to healing for kids needing Manitoba’s only children’s hospital,” added Stefano Grande, president and CEO, Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
The province says it will continue selling remaining U.S. liquor inventory and direct future proceeds to Manitoba charities.
