Manitoba Egg Farmers has donated 10,000 coupons for a free dozen eggs to schools across the province through the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba, providing up to 120,000 eggs to students.
The initiative is supported by Egg Farmers of Canada’s Egg Farmers Give Back program and aims to help school meal programs stretch their budgets while offering students access to high-protein, locally produced food.
“Eggs are an affordable, easy-to-prepare source of high-quality protein that helps fuel a full day of learning,” said Sandra Dyck, director on MEF’s board.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to support such an impactful program — because when students are well-nourished, they’re empowered to learn, create and grow.”
The program’s launch was celebrated on Thursday morning during an event for students at Lavallee School on St. Anne’s Road.
“It is by far the busiest morning when we are serving eggs,” said Katelyn Combs, a teacher and community connector at Lavallee School. “We actually incorporated eggs into our lunch menu for a few weeks due to the support of the egg coupons.”
