The Red River portion of the Nestaweya River Trail will close to allow for maintenance work on the Historic Rail Bridge before seasonal ice conditions change.
Officials with The Forks say the essential work involves removing steel framing that housed the bridge’s counterweight system. Crews are completing the project while the ice remains stable, ahead of the spring thaw.
The Assiniboine River section of the trail, from The Forks to Hugo Docks, along with the canopy and upper skating trails, will remain open, weather and ice conditions permitting. Updates are available at theforks.com/skate.
