Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to two separate structure fires within hours of each other between Monday and early Tuesday.

The first fire broke out at 4:40 p.m. Monday in a vacant house in the 400 block of Maryland Street. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the building, attacked the blaze, and declared it under control at 5:18 p.m.

Less than 12 hours later, at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to a house fire in the 200 block of Mill Rock Road. Heavy smoke and flames were showing on arrival, forcing crews to adopt a defensive strategy as conditions made it unsafe to enter the building. The fire was declared under control at 3:40 a.m.

Both fires are under investigation.
