A Winnipeg family investment firm has applied to build a massive 700-acre industrial park in CentrePort South.
Jessiman Family Investments is behind the project, called Catalyst Park, which would support modern industrial tenants, including potential aerospace and air-freight firms, with complementary retail.
The city says the development would be more than double the size of St. Boniface Industrial Park as it stood when it opened in 1977.
Mayor Scott Gillingham welcomed the application Tuesday, noting the city is already fielding interest from the aerospace sector.
“This is a big step forward for Winnipeg’s Sky Economy, bringing a high-growth investment opportunity to CentrePort South,” said Gillingham, in a release.
CentrePort Canada Inc. president and CEO Carly Edmundson called the proposal a “significant milestone” for both CentrePort and Winnipeg, describing it as the largest development project in CentrePort’s history.
Gillingham has also written to members of the Assiniboia Community Committee (below), saying the city has a strategic economic interest in seeing Catalyst Park succeed. The application now moves through the public approval process.
