WINNIPEG — Seven Oaks General Hospital is the latest facility to be grey-listed by nurses due to workplace safety concerns.
The Manitoba Nurses Union said on Friday that nurses have voted 98 percent in favour of the designation.
The MNU says the vote reflects mounting frustration among nurses who say violence, security gaps, communication failures, and unsafe staffing levels continue to compromise the safety of staff and patients.
“Seven Oaks nurses have made it clear that enough is enough,” said Darlene Jackson, president of the MNU. “They are demanding action on safety concerns that have persisted for far too long. Every healthcare worker has the right to a safe workplace, and every patient deserves care in an environment that is properly staffed, supported, and secure.”
Two other Winnipeg hospitals were grey-listed in the past for similar safety concerns, including the Health Sciences Centre in 2025 and St. Boniface Hospital earlier this year.
Grey-listing a facility acts as an official advisory by the union to discourage current and prospective members from working at the hospitals until safety conditions are improved.
“Nurses have put forward clear, practical solutions that would make this workplace safer for staff, patients, and visitors,” Jackson continued. “The employer now has an opportunity to demonstrate that safety is a priority by taking meaningful action on those concerns.”
