Three new fire engines, built locally at Fort Garry Fire Trucks, were inspected Monday at the company’s Winnipeg facility before rolling out.
The fire engines are replacing aging units and will soon join the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service fleet this summer.
“WFPS members do critical work every day to keep our city safe,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “Investing in new fire engines means investing in their safety and making sure our firefighters have reliable equipment to do their jobs and respond when Winnipeggers need them most.”
Each vehicle will be outfitted with WFPS-specific decals and equipment before entering service.
Fort Garry Fire Trucks is also building the city a heavy rescue unit set for completion later this year. Eight more trucks are on order, with deliveries expected over the next two years.
The three new engines cost the city a total of $1.3 million.
