Flo (HANDOUT)

Winnipeg R&B artist Flo is about to debut her newest album in front of a local crowd.

The CD release party for Pieces of Me will be held Saturday, June 9 at the West End Cultural Centre.

“I write songs that talk about my own experiences and experiences I’ve observed in others,” Flo said in a release. “It’s like a sentiment that actually touches deep and rings true to others, that human experience.”

Her new song, “Hateless,” is a stance against bullying, which features the background vocals of the Winnipeg Youth Chorus children’s choir

“Parents and kids came up after we recorded the song to tell me how they’d been through bullying, cyber-bullying, and even thoughts of suicide. It blew me away.”

Flo is recently known for her vocal support in the Hot 103 parody video, “Transcona State of Mind,” in celebration of the Winnipeg neighbourhood’s 100th anniversary.

Tickets are $15 in advance at the WECC or Ticketmaster, or $20 at the door. Admission includes a CD, with $2 from every ticket going to charity.
