Winnipeg radio host-turned-podcaster Marty Gold has a new outlet to take politicians to task.
The former KICK FM broadcaster will host “City Circus” on Shaw TV beginning tonight as part of a 13-week series on the community access channel.
The show — featuring local political cartoonist Graham Hnatiuk of Progressive Winnipeg — will highlight citizen journalism and include pundits and insiders who will discuss civic and provincial affairs catering to Winnipeggers. A one-hour town hall special will cap off the 30-minute series after its run.
“Community access television provides a chance for citizen journalists to provide balance to mainstream media reporting that is dominated by 12 second soundbites and dumbed-down news coverage,” Gold said. “Since the civic election, Winnipeg has seen a shift towards increasing demands by taxpayers for public consultation, transparency and accountability from politicians.”
Gold spent four years at 92.9 KICK FM on the airwaves at Red River College before being let go in 2010. He currently hosts “The Great Canadian Talk Show” podcast and writes for various news publications.
“City Circus” will air every Tuesday at 9:30 p.m., with reruns airing throughout the week.
