Storm Knocks Out Power, Phone Service in Northwestern Manitoba

June 28, 2012 8:38 AM | News

A powerful storm that ripped through parts of northwestern Manitoba on Wednesday is still having an impact on residents in the area.

MTS says it’s working to restore service in more than 20 communities affected by power outages and damaged cables. Some telecommunications services have been affected for short periods of time in several communities, including landline and wireless service, but the majority of service is being maintained with little or no interruption using MTS backup generators and battery power.

Several communities in the Parkland, Interlake, and Westman regions are affected. Manitoba Hydro says some areas could experience power outages of up to 48 hours.
