Organizers of the Movember Winnipeg fundraising campaign say they’re on track to reach their hefty provincial goal.
With one week to go, more than 7,300 registrants have raised nearly half a million dollars through online pledges. Funds raised go to fight prostate cancer and raise awareness of male mental health initiatives.
The goal this year is 10,000 participants and $1 million.
“With many moustache growers yet to officially register online and cash donations still to collect, we are optimistic that Manitobans will help us reach our objectives,” said Jamie Hopkins, Movember Winnipeg co-chair. “If there are Mo Bros growing or Mo Sistas supporting the cause, we encourage them to register for free on Movember.com. It’s not too late.”
In 2011, Manitoba had 4,400 registered participants and raised close to $675,000.
Movember Winnipeg will wrap up its efforts with a gala party on Wednesday, November 28 at the Pyramid Cabaret (8 p.m.). Admission is free for those who have raised at least $100 in pledges.
