Police Warn of Scammers Impersonating City Staff

December 6, 2012 3:17 PM CDT | News

By Brian Schultz

Winnipeg police are warning the public about door-to-door scammers impersonating City of Winnipeg employees.

Police say residents in the old St. Vital area have been approached by individuals offering to install water filtration systems. The Winnipeg Water and Waste Department doesn’t perform such a service.

Residents are urged to check identification before allowing anyone into their homes. City staff wear proper identification and can produce it if requested.

Anyone who has been or is approached by these individuals should call police.
