The first ever Wild Winter Canoe Race tested the (frozen) waters at The Forks on Monday.
Community Living Winnipeg held the inaugural event, which will trial a demonstration for next year’s fundraiser.
Twelve teams took part in a friendly competition on a course of groomed snow tracks located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers. The racecourse was made up of a straight, snow-packed 200-meter course of four lanes.
The top four teams challenged each other for the win. Team Canoe Snafu completed the course in the fastest time and won a Via Rail round-trip to Churchill.
