Silicon Valley has had it for years, making Gigabit Fibe Internet a thing of envy for cities like Winnipeg. But it may soon be on its way here.
As part of Bell’s takeover of MTS, the two companies will bring the ultra-fast Internet to Innovation Alley as the first location in the city.
Bell is also promising to have its high-speed LTE-advanced wireless technology in Winnipeg once regulators approve the deal between the two companies.
Bell MTS has signed a three-year sponsorship with Innovation Alley, Winnipeg’s “hub” for all things technology, and will make the area its launch point for the deployment of both new services.
“These broadband enhancements for Innovation Alley are part of the Bell MTS plan to invest $1 billion over 5 years to accelerate broadband communications services throughout Manitoba,” the companies said in a joint statement.
Federal regulators still have to approve the $3.9 billion transaction between the two companies.
