Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport is carrying out an emergency exercise on Thursday evening.

The exercise will simulate an incident on the airfield and in the terminal featuring emergency response vehicles and personnel.

Airport officials say it will enable airport and emergency response personnel to review and practice emergency response procedures in a safe and controlled environment.

Specifics of the exercise such as timing and the incident scenario aren’t being released.

Participating agencies include RCMP, Winnipeg Police Service, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, Canada Border Services Agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, Delta Air Lines, WestJet and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

The airport will remain open and operational at all times during the exercise.
