Registration has opened up for this winter’s Wild Winter Canoe Race.
Winnipeggers bundled up last year to help raise funds for Inclusion Winnipeg — a United Way Winnipeg organization — by racing canoes on the frozen river at The Forks.
This season’s race is February 20, 2017 (Louis Riel Day), and 20,000 people are expected to attend.
“We were thrilled with the extraordinary success of the inaugural 2016 event and aim to grow the Wild Winter Canoe Race into an annual Winnipeg winter ritual not to be missed,” said Karen Menkis, event organizer and Inclusion Winnipeg board member.
The race includes five-person teams racing canoes over a snow-packed 200-metre course.
Registration is limited to 60 teams (300 racers) and participants must be at least 18-years-old to be crew.
