Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit is looking into the injuries of a man who was arrested by Winnipeg police on Wednesday at Siloam Mission.
Police were called to the homeless shelter for an agitated male, but say he resisted and refused commands while they were trying to arrest him. Officers used pepper spray and deployed a Taser to eventually subdue him.
The man was taken to the Health Sciences Centre where it was discovered he had a collapsed lung. The IIU said because of the man’s internal injuries, it’s mandated to investigate.
Witnesses or anyone who may have photos or video footage of the incident is asked to contact the IIU at 1-844-667-6060.
