The Winnipeg Ice has signed forward Matthew Savoie, their first overall selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.
Savoie played in 31 regular season games with the Northern Alberta X-Treme Prep of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) during the 2018-2019 season. He recorded 31 goals and added 40 assists for 71 points during that time.
“Matt is an elite player and we are excited that he has chosen the WHL and Winnipeg ICE to continue his development,” said Matt Cockell, Ice president and GM.
In addition, Savoie suited up for Team Alberta at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer. He scored six goals and added seven assists for 13 points in six tournament games helping Alberta earn a bronze medal.
The WHL club also announced Thursday it has released 100 additional seats at Wayne Fleming Arena ahead of the 2019-20 regular season.
