Winnipeg Taxi Driver Pepper-Sprayed, Carjacked

Winnipeg Police Logo CrestA Winnipeg taxi driver was pepper-sprayed and carjacked early Tuesday morning in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street.

Police say a female passenger was picked up at around 2 a.m., who then used bear spray on the driver before stealing the taxi.

The cab was found abandoned a short time later after striking a tree in the area of Redwood Avenue and Salter Street.

The taxi driver sought treatment in hospital.

Police arrested a 21-year-old Winnipeg woman nearby in the area of Mountain Avenue and Salter Street.

She faces charges of robbery, possession of a weapon and breach of recognizance. She remains in custody.
