The Grey Cup-winning Winnipeg Blue Bombers have another W in the social media column.

Twitter Canada released its year-end insights Tuesday, placing the football club as having the most Winnipeg mentions in a single day on November 24.

“Football from north and south of the border truly helped shape the Winnipeg conversation on Twitter this year,” Cam Gordon, head of communications, Twitter Canada, told ChrisD.ca.

“Between the NFL pre-season coming to town to the Blue Bombers historical victory in the Grey Cup, action on the gridiron kept Winnipeg squarely in the sports conversation in 2019 from the city and beyond. The saga of Chris Matthew and his pants also added a fun viral layer that brought conversations about Winnipeg even further into the mainstream.”

Taking the second spot for most Winnipeg mentions in 2019 was the NFL pre-season game between the Oakland Raiders vs. Green Bay Packers on August 22. The climate strike rally finished third with the most local mentions on September 27.

While the Bombers led Winnipeg sports talk on the platform, it was five Winnipeg Jets players who garnered the most mentions.
