WINNIPEG — Manitoba teachers have overwhelmingly ratified their first-ever provincial collective agreement, with 95% voting in favour.

Nearly 70% of eligible teachers participated in the vote, which covers educators across the province’s 37 anglophone school divisions.

The four-year agreement, effective from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2026, includes significant wage increases totalling approximately 12.25%, with a compounded increase of 12.85%. The salary schedule will see annual raises of 2.5% in 2022/23, 2.75% in 2023/24, and 3% in both 2024/25 and 2025/26, with an additional 1% retention bonus starting in February 2026.

The agreement also introduces improved working conditions, including enhanced workplace safety measures, increased prep time, and more leave options, including personal and Indigenous ceremonial leave.

“This agreement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers,” said MTS president Nathan Martindale. “It reflects our commitment to recognizing their invaluable contributions and ensuring they are supported in their ever changing and demanding roles.”

While acknowledging that not all members may be fully satisfied, Martindale highlighted the agreement as a substantial step towards equity and vowed to continue advocating for further improvements for all members.
