WINNIPEG — The province has pulled rank and ordered the City of Winnipeg to fog for mosquitoes in response to high numbers of Culex tarsalis skeeters and evidence of mosquito infection with West Nile virus.
The order, issued on Thursday, also targets neighbourhoods in Altona, Manitoba and portions of the RMs of Rhineland and West St. Paul.
Beginning Friday at 9:30 p.m., city crews will fog the following Insect Management Areas:
- 22 (Bridgwater Lakes)
- 23 (Tuxedo Industrial, Whyte Ridge, Wilkes South)
- 24 (Brockville, Linden Ridge, Lindenwoods, West Fort Garry Industrial)
- 51 (Riverbend, Rosser – Old Kildonan)
As per the provincial order, buffer zones are no longer in effect within city limits.
Fogging will be carried out using DeltaGard 20EW.
