WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government is boosting support for crime victims by increasing funding for Manitoba Justice Victim Services by 50 percent.
“We need to do everything we can to support Manitobans who are victims of crime,” said Justice Minister Matt Wiebe on Tuesday.
“These resources will support programs running throughout the province and ensure that we can make compassionate, community-based care available to those who need it in the aftermath of a crime.”
The additional funds, sourced from the Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund, will raise the annual contribution from $500,000 to $750,000. This money will support several community-based programs across the province, including therapy for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, bereavement support for families of homicide victims, and crisis counseling for sexual violence survivors.
The province says the increase is part of a broader commitment to enhance resources for victims of crime and violence in Manitoba.
