Winnipeg MP and federal cabinet minister Dan Vandal won’t seek re-election, according to a report out on Thursday.

Vandal has represented the Saint Boniface — Saint Vital constituency since 2015. He became Minister of Northern Affairs in 2019 and is also currently the minister responsible for PrairiesCan.

A Radio-Canada report said along with Vandal, National Revenue Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau and Sports Minister Carla Qualtrough also won’t be on the ballot and are expected to step down from cabinet. Filomena Tassi, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, announced Thursday she won’t be running again for personal reasons.

Before jumping to federal politics, Vandal was a Winnipeg city councillor from 1995 to 2004, and again from 2006 to 2014.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to shuffle his cabinet after the four Liberal cabinet ministers informed his office they aren’t running in the next election.
