WINNIPEG — The Manitoba NDP added a hefty sum to their financial war chest in the third quarter of the year.
The party fundraised $349,292 over the summer, raising more than three times the amount collected by Progressive Conservatives of $109,284, according to financial returns from the recent Tuxedo byelection.
Despite spending over $110,000 on the Tuxedo byelection, the PCs lost the seat for the first time in their history.
“Our win in Tuxedo was a historic success and a clear rejection of the PCs’ divisive approach,” said Tuxedo MLA Carla Compton. “These record fundraising results confirm that more Manitobans than ever are united behind our positive vision for one Manitoba.”
The PCs began the year with more than a million dollars in election debt, and recent accusations of financial mismanagement have further complicated their situation.
The NDP will celebrate on Friday at a sold-out gala dinner, marking 25 years since its historic 1999 provincial election victory.
