WINNIPEG — Manitoba Opera kicks off its 52nd season with Gaetano Donizetti’s beloved romantic comedy “The Elixir of Love” (L’Elisir d’Amore) this weekend.
A lighthearted tale of mistaken love and a magical potion, the production is set in a 1950s Italian village. The opera will be performed at the Centennial Concert Hall on October 26, October 30, and November 1.
Soprano Andriana Chuchman stars as Adina, reprising the role that launched her career at the Metropolitan Opera, with tenor Jonah Hoskins as the love-struck Nemorino. Peter McGillivray returns as Dr. Dulcamara, the comical potion-peddling quack, alongside Jorell Williams, making his Manitoba Opera debut as Sergeant Belcore.
Conducted by Tyrone Paterson with direction by Ann Hodges, the production features music from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Manitoba Opera Chorus.
Tickets are available online, by calling (204) 944-8824 or at the Manitoba Opera box office in the lower level of the Centennial Concert Hall (9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday). Seniors, students, and youth discounts are available.
