The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to four separate structure fires overnight, starting with a fire at 11:07 p.m. Thursday in a commercial building on McPhillips Street.
Flames from an outdoor blaze spread to the building’s exterior. The fire was brought under control by 12:28 a.m., and the building’s staff evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.
Hours later, at 2 a.m. on Friday, WFPS crews tackled a fire in a commercial building on St. Anne’s Road. Crews arrived to find smoke emanating from one unit and successfully contained the fire from inside. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
At 3:07 a.m., a more severe fire broke out at a residence on Alexander Avenue. Crews arrived to find intense smoke and flames and used a defensive strategy to control the fire from the outside. While no one was injured, the home sustained significant damage, and neighbouring residents were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.
Finally, at 4:48 a.m., crews responded to a fire in a vacant multi-family residence on Evanson Avenue. Crews quickly controlled the fire, and no occupants were found inside.
All four fires are currently under investigation, with no damage estimates available yet. WFPS reminds residents to report any suspicious activity near vacant properties by contacting Winnipeg police at 911.
