Original story follows below:
Winnipeg police are hoping the public can identify a suspect after a woman was assaulted in a student housing complex at the University of Manitoba.
Police were contacted at around 4:45 a.m. Friday for a report of a break-in and assault at the Dafoe Road complex.
Officers met with the victim, who reported she was in her suite when an intruder entered her room and physically assaulted her. She managed to fight off the suspect by calling for help. Campus security was alerted and police were contacted. The student was treated for injuries and is in stable condition.
The suspect is described as a man between 5’10” and 6’0″ in height, with unkempt facial hair and long unkempt hair. He was wearing a black toque, and black jersey with a grey hooded sweater underneath. He was possibly wearing blue jeans and black shoes while wearing a black and blue backpack.
Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to contact the Winnipeg police sex crimes unit at (204) 986-6245 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (204) 786-TIPS.
This is the second violent incident on the U of M’s Fort Garry campus this week. On Tuesday, an 18-year-old man was robbed, assaulted and attacked with bear spray while sitting on a park bench. Police later arrested two teens.
