Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Killington Bay on Friday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived just after 3 p.m. and encountered smoke billowing from a bungalow, quickly moving inside to contain the blaze. The fire was declared under control by 3:42 p.m.

Residents of the home had evacuated prior to the firefighters’ arrival. One person was taken to hospital in stable condition, while a cat was unfortunately found deceased within the structure.

The bungalow sustained extensive smoke and water damage. Although the exact cause remains under investigation, early findings suggest the fire was accidental and related to smoking. No damage estimates are yet available.

Firefighters then responded to two more fires, including a blaze on Friday night at a home in the 2100 block of King Edward Street. Crews determined the cause to be accidental related to a malfunctioning fireplace. On Saturday morning, a two-storey duplex fire in the 1000 block of Cavalier Drive was deemed to be caused by a candle.
