Lyft officially launched its ride-hailing service in Winnipeg on Tuesday, adding a new transportation option for residents.

The popular rideshare app is now available for Winnipeggers looking for convenient rides around the city, whether they’re heading to the airport, commuting, or meeting friends.

“Riders in Winnipeg can now choose Lyft for a ride to run errands, visit with family, or explore the city,” said Audrey Liu, EVP of rider experience and community safety at Lyft, in a statement.

“We’ve provided almost 106 million rides to over 4.3 million Canadians so far, and we’re looking forward to serving even more Canadians by connecting the Winnipeg community to the places, people, and experiences they love.”

To celebrate the launch, new Winnipeg users can receive a 50% discount off their first five rides within the first two weeks, using code LYFTCA. The offer caps at $10 per ride.

Ridesharing in Winnipeg has grown steadily since its official legalization in 2018, when the province passed legislation allowing municipalities to regulate rideshare services. This paved the way for companies like Uber, which entered Winnipeg in 2020 after significant interest from residents.
