WINNIPEG — Time is running out for fans to catch the immersive Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon planetarium experience at the Manitoba Museum.
The visually and musically intense show, developed by Pink Floyd and NSC Creative, will end on December 31, 2024, as all licenses for the digital production are set to retire permanently.
Initially launched in 2023 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic album, the planetarium show combines stunning visuals of space with 42 minutes of The Dark Side of the Moon. Unlike traditional laser shows, this production leverages advanced digital technology for a truly immersive, 360-degree experience, with each song aligning to a unique theme.
“This isn’t the old-style ‘laser show’ of the past,” said Scott Young, planetarium astronomer at the Manitoba Museum. “The show was produced to use the latest digital planetarium system, and Winnipeg is one of only a handful of planetariums in Canada equipped to show it.”
The planetarium will feature final showings starting November 14, and doors open early to let attendees enjoy pre-show drinks and explore the Museum’s Science Gallery.
“We literally have to delete the files. This really is the last chance to see the show,” Young added.
