WINNIPEG — The Canada Life Centre will celebrate its 20th anniversary this Saturday, marking two decades since it opened with the “Northern Lights Northern Stars” concert in 2004. Since then, the downtown arena has hosted more than 2,500 events and welcomed its 20 millionth guest at an October 2024 Winnipeg Jets game.

To honour this milestone, the Winnipeg Jets will hold a 20th anniversary celebration on November 19 as they play against the Florida Panthers. The event will feature a look back at memorable moments at the arena, and the first 5,000 fans will receive a commemorative coin.

True North Sports + Entertainment is also releasing a commemorative book, “Canada Life Centre: A Pictorial Celebration of 20 Years of Sports & Entertainment,” showcasing 100 top moments, from hockey championships and Team Canada games to performances by major artists. The book will be available at Jets Gear locations and online for $29.95.

Since its opening as the MTS Centre, the arena has become a central venue for sports and entertainment, welcoming over a million guests annually and helping to revitalize Winnipeg’s downtown area.

The arena was initially constructed to address Winnipeg’s need for a modern facility after the departure of the original Winnipeg Jets in 1996.
