WINNIPEG — Manitoba families with school-aged children in licensed, funded child-care facilities will now be covered by $10-a-day child-care on non-school days.
Acting Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt announced late Friday, that as of December 8, the child-care overage also extends in-services, holidays, and summer breaks.
“The need for affordable child-care doesn’t stop on in-services and holidays,” said Schmidt. “The holidays are a time to celebrate with your family, but for many parents, the costs can start to add up,” said Schmidt.”
Previously, child-care fees for school-aged children on non-school days could cost up to $20 per day. With the extension of the Reduced Parent Fee Revenue Grant, parents will now pay $10. The reduction is expected to save families approximately $140 during the holiday season for two school-aged children.
The new funding will be in effect during the upcoming winter holiday break.
