WINNIPEG — CAA Manitoba is experiencing a significant increase in call volume as the province endures a prolonged period of extreme cold.
Over the past two days, the organization has reported triple the usual number of service requests, with priority given to emergency calls.
Emergency calls are being handled as normal, while non-urgent roadside assistance requests, such as tow services, are facing delays. Members seeking non-emergency service are being informed that dispatch will contact them within 24 hours to arrange a time. However, estimated times of arrival aren’t being provided at this time.
“We are working through the backlog and actively contacting members to keep them informed about the status of their service calls,” said CAA Manitoba spokesperson Nadia Matos on Friday.
“We ask members to check with their garage to confirm if they can accept their vehicle. If it is after hours, we must ensure we can access/drop the vehicle.”
The cold snap will ease its grip on the province this weekend, with Saturday’s forecasted daytime high in Winnipeg to be -7°C. Sunday looks to be even balmier at -2°C before temperatures take another dip into mid-next week.
